Maternity Pilot Program

Program Description

Per NAVADMIN 284/21, the Navy Uniform Matters Office, N13X (UMO), in conjunction with the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) launched the Navy’s Maternity Uniform Pilot Program (MPP) on January 2, 2022.  The MPP provides at no cost, maternity uniforms to eligible Sailors on a temporary basis throughout their pregnancy.  Participation in the program is voluntary through September 30, 2026.  Command endorsement required.

The MPP program is open to officers and enlisted, active and reserve Sailors assigned to CONUS and OCONUS commands.  Selection for participation will be on a first-come, first-serve basis provided all eligibility requirements are met.  Upon selection, participants will be offered a choice to pick one of four maternity sea bag options to facilitate receipt of uniforms and components aligned with their daily assignments and individual command uniform requirements.  Maternity Working uniforms will come complete with sewn-on embroidered name tape, service tape and qualification insignia.  Enlisted E1-E6 Maternity Dress uniforms will come with sewn-on rank insignia and neck tab.  Hemming and shipment of uniforms will be performed free of charge.

Program Application Process

Sailors who are pregnant and would like to participate in the Navy’s MPP, please refer to the guidance provided below:

1.  Download the MPP Application Instruction GuideMaternity Pilot Program Application and the Maternity Uniform Measurement Sheet

a.  Print a copy of the Maternity Uniform Measurement Sheet and present to their Navy Exchange Uniform Shop to obtain and document required body measurements.  For applicants that reside remotely from a military uniform center, a “How to Measure video” is available to provide self-measurement instructions or guidance for commercial tailors.  Please ensure all information requested is documented on the form.

b. Using the MPP Application Instruction Guide, fill out the Maternity Pilot Program Application.  Upon completion route the application and measurement sheet through your chain of command (i.e., immediate supervisor, department head, commanding officer/chief of staff or equivalent).

2.  Applicant’s chain of command will verify the member’s pregnancy status and MPP participation eligibility criteria (i.e., EAOS 12 months or greater from date of request and not in receipt of a maternity clothing allowance during this pregnancy).  Upon verification of applicant’s eligibility, the member’s commanding officer, chief of staff or equivalent will indicate their endorsement on the Maternity Pilot Program Application per the MPP Application Instruction Guide.

3.  Once the application and measurement sheets are completed, send both PDF documents using the following file names:

          a.  Rank Last name, First name MPP SRC Application

          b.  Rank Last name, First name MPP Measurement Sheet

4.  Email both documents to Navy_MPP.fct@navy.mil with the Subject Line: Rank Last Name, First Name MPP Application.

5.  The Uniform Matters Office (UMO) will screen and confirm MPP participation criteria has been met to include validating the member’s EAOS is at least 12 months or more from the date of application and that no maternity allowance has been allocated or will be received for the current pregnancy.  UMO will forward both documents to the Government Business Team (GBT) for processing.

6.  Upon receipt of maternity uniform application and measurement forms, the GBT will contact applicants to ensure all information is accurate before ordering maternity uniform components.  MPP components will be shipped to service members at the address provided on their application.  Tracking numbers will be provided to applicants to monitor delivery status (delivery timeframes may vary depending on method of shipment).  The service member can expect to receive their uniforms tailored and ready for wear.  All uniform items will be returned within 9 to 12 months of initial receipt via a pre-paid shipping label provided by the GBT.
